About Us
GardenTots Pediatrics is a private practice in Kearny, New Jersey, proudly serving the surrounding communities. We care for children of all ages, from newborns to young adults (up to 25 years). The practice is led by Dr. Rinet Fernandes, MD, FAAP, a board-certified pediatrician with more than 20 years of experience.

Meet The Provider
Dr Rinet Fernandes MD, FAAP
Dr Rinet Fernandes MD is a Board-certified Pediatrician who brings to the community 20 years of clinical experience in the care of children from newborns to young adults. Her empathy, clinical skills and diligence to detail helps her provide her patients with the best possible care to nurture them into healthy productive adults.
Dr. Fernandes completed her medical training at St. John’s Medical College in India, where she also completed her pediatric residency. In the U.S., she completed her pediatric residency at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey, where she continued to work as a faculty member. She is renowned as a teacher and has mentored many residents who have gone on to become exemplary Pediatricians.
Dr. Fernandes is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and also an active member of the New Jersey Chapter of the AAP (NJAAP) and has contributed to many community-focused initiatives. She has served the community by representing NJ at the American Academy of Pediatrics and performed numerous talks on the national stage about children’s health and its future.
She is affiliated with a number of hospitals in the area, including Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, NJ, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ, and St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson, NJ.
Dr. Fernandes speaks English, Hindi and Spanish. She is passionate about pediatric care, with a focus on addressing each child’s individual needs. Her experience allows her to provide specialized, compassionate care, particularly for children with complex medical conditions, while partnering closely with parents to guide them through every step of their child’s healthcare journey.
Dr Fernandes is a mother of two and is an avid gardener! Being a working mother herself, she understands the trials and tribulations of a mother. She seeks to partner with the families of her patients to fulfill their potential as adults!

I usually don't write reviews, but I had to tell about this doctor. I am a parent of a disabled child, over the years we have spent more days in the hospital than at home until we met Dr Fernandes, not only was she a fine doctor she also took the trouble to go out of her way to call the insurance companies and government agencies to make sure that my child received the supportive care. If we miss an appointment, you can be sure that she is following up and does not miss anything. Over the past year and a half my child has not been admitted and we are able to live a normal life again.
